Rehearsal studio for Theatre of the Mind (1991)

At its fatest, my "progressive rock" drum set, consisted of 5½x6, 5½x8, 6½x10 and 8x12" concert toms, 10x12, 11x13, 12x15, 14x16 and 18x18" closed toms, two 16x24" bass drums, a 7x14" Noble & Cooley Classic SS maple snare drum, 10 and 12" Remo chrome roto-toms, 13 and 14" Gon-bob brass timables, 8, 10, and 12" Paiste splash cymbals, 13" heavy hi-hats, 14" Rude sound-edge hi-hats (remote), 15, 16 and 18" Rude crashes, 16 and 17" power crashes, 18" crash, 18" china, 20" nova china, 20" Wuhan (not Paiste) china, 22" Sound Creation china, 22" power ride, chimes, 12 6" Dauz pads triggering a Roland PM-16 MIDI controller conected to a Simmons SDE tuned percussion module, Simmons SDS-9 electronic drum module, Roland R-5 drum machine and a Casio keyboard. All drums were Pearl MMX (maple) and cymbals were Paiste 3000s (except where noted). All heads by Remo - CS black dots on the concert toms and bass drum batters, clear ambassadors on the roto-toms, timbales, snare, and tom bottoms, and pin stripes on the closed tom batters. All hardware and bass drum pedals by Pearl.

The incredible shrinking drum set (1996)

My current set-up is significantly smaller (and more portable): the same 1986 Pearl MMX drums (12, 13, 15, 18" closed toms and 24" bass drum), the same Noble & Cooley snare, a new Pearl rack, Rhythm Tech tambourine and Axis double-bass drum pedals. The surviving Paiste 3000's (now discontinued) are the 8" splash, 13" heavy hi-hats, 18" china, and 22" power ride. New Paiste Signature series 16" and 18" power crashes are now up front (with more on the way?). All heads are still by Remo with clear ambassadors on all batters and bottoms except the bass drum batter (a CS black dot). I use Pro-mark 747 oak sticks. I still have all the old toys in the chest, so don't be surprised if you see (or hear) them reappear from time to time.
